Ocala, Fla. Carolyn Sue Moss (formerly Miller), a long-time residence of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died in her home in Oak Run, Ocala, Florida, on Saturday, June 13th, of an apparent heart attack. She was 75.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Shirley (Red) and Idras Miller, Carolyn attended Stonewall High School, Sissonville High School and graduated from Ripley High School in Jackson County in 1958. She traveled with her Marine Corps husband, E. Rexford Moss, of Sissonville, before settling in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She began her career with the City of Virginia Beach as an office clerk working her way up to Commercial Real Estate Appraiser Supervisor becoming one of the first female commercial appraisers in the nation. She retired to Ocala, Florida in 2003 fulfilling her dream to own a Florida home and be nearer to her sister, Connie, who was also her best friend and traveling partner. She enjoyed decorating her home and had impeccable taste.
Carolyn was an avid reader and also took great pleasure in a broad variety of musical genres. She loved going to golden-oldies concerts, listening to classical, gospel and pop music. She loved Elvis and was a major fan of the Righteous Brothers. She enjoyed a variety of interests during her lifetime including being an award winning member of a bowling team and tap dancing. She loved to sing, play the piano and organ and looked forward to a night of Bingo. Gifted with a keen sense of humor, Carolyn loved to laugh, and did so often. She was intelligent, articulate, independent, inquisitive, determined, strong-willed and believed in taking personal responsibility for one’s life and circumstance. She was politically inclined and frequently would write to representatives to express her opinions concerning legislation. She had a strong sense of justice. Carolyn was a devoted and loving mother, sister, friend and role model.
Carolyn was married for 18 years to her husband, E. Rexford Moss of Sissonville, and is survived by her one son, Michael Moss, his wife, Carrie, and their three children, Jennifer, Robert and Scott Moss, all of whom she adored and who reside in Midlothian, Virginia. She had four siblings: Curtis Ray Miller, deceased, Rommie (Butch) Miller and his wife, Arlene Miller and their daughter, Lori Miller Sumner, husband Macon Sumner and her two children, Nikki and Megan Williamson, brother, Ronnie Miller, deceased, all of Virginia Beach, and a sister, Connie Miller Casipit and husband Doug Casipit of Orlando, Fl, nephew David Casipit and wife, Kyoko, and great nephew and niece, Kai and Lynae Casipit, and niece, Brooke Casipit of Castro Valley, Ca. and numerous cousins and lifelong friends. Carolyn will be greatly missed. The world is a little bit less without her in it.
