Debra Lynn Sullivan, lovingly known as Debbie, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 68. Born on June 30, 1957, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Debbie lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved.

Debbie was a dedicated educator and Professor of Sociology for more than twenty years. Throughout her career, she inspired countless students while teaching at Saint Leo University, Southern New Hampshire University, the University of Tampa, and the University of South Florida. She believed deeply in the power of education and had a gift for helping others see the world through a more thoughtful and compassionate lens.

While her professional accomplishments were significant, Debbie's greatest joy came from the people she loved. She cherished time spent with family and friends, whether traveling together, enjoying a day at the beach, or simply sharing laughter around the table. She was an avid reader, loved watching HGTV while dreaming up her next home improvement project, and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Tampa Bay Lightning.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lee Rogers.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher Andrew Sullivan; her daughter, Brittany Marie Cross; her son, Brian Matthew Cross; her daughter-in-law Amber Musee; her grandchildren, Dalton and Avery Henry, who brought immense joy and pride to her life; her sister, Judi Connor; her brother, Michael Rogers; and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives were forever touched by her kindness.

Those who knew Debbie will remember her beautiful smile, her contagious laugh, and her remarkable ability to make others feel seen, valued, and loved. She poured herself endlessly into caring for others and leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and compassion that will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.
