Joshua Tyler Tassell, age 36, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, "Graduated" surrounded by his loving family on July 28, 2026. Born on September 20, 1989, in Jacksonville, Florida, Joshua is now reunited with his beloved mother, Linda Leigh Highfill, his cherished Memaw Grace Farrell, and his funny Pawpaw Robert Highfill.
Joshua will always be remembered for his profound passion for drawing and painting, showcasing a unique gift that brought joy to all around him. He had a remarkable talent for building and recreating imaginative contraptions that sparked laughter and fun. Joshua's enthusiasm for life was infectious, especially during the Highfill family's annual 4th of July celebrations, marked by spirited singing and competitive games of Mafia, Catch Phrase, and Hide and Seek. His playful spirit made him a favorite at family gatherings, where he brought joy to both adults and children alike.
One of Joshua's greatest sources of joy was being "Uncle Joshie" to his beloved nephews Dylan, Peter, Joe, Tristen, and nieces MaryGrace and Violet, Joshua was always the first to join the neighborhood kids for games of football, scooter rides, and water fights, epitomizing fun and friendship.
He is survived by his much-loved father, John Farrell-whom he affectionately called "Deda"-and his devoted stepmother, Celeste Devaney with whom he spent countless hours talking and watching movies. Joshua found joy and wisdom from his father, from learning to surf to sharing memorable moments filled with laughter and love. He is also survived by beloved siblings Ryan Bennett, Cassandra Latimer (Bradley Latimer), and Lori Lynn Bennett, who was with him during his final years.. His beloved aunts and uncles include Robert Highfill, Laurie Sleffel (Freddy Sleffel), Leslie Highfill, and Kim Howe (Stan Howe), along with cousins Billy Highfill (Meredith), Candace Lautzenheiser (Zach), Jennifer Howe (Erick), Mary Beth Howe Newton (Whit), and Madeline Highfill Sharkey.
Joshua's loyalty, caring nature, and unwavering support made him a steadfast friend to many. Best friends Shawn, Melissa, Luke, and James W. remained by his side, sharing laughter and love through the years. If you were fortunate enough to be called a friend by Josh, you enjoyed a lifelong bond filled with kindness.
A peacemaker by nature and a soul filled with kindness, Joshua's only moments of frustration arose when he needed to protect those he loved. He was fiercely protective of his siblings and friends, always standing by their side with unwavering support.
The beach was one of Joshua's favorite places, where he felt truly at peace. Whether surfing with his father, swimming with family, or creating lasting memories building sandcastles, Josh appreciated the beauty of the ocean and often reflected on God's presence within it.
In honoring his memory, Joshua would want to be remembered with smiles and laughter, in line with the wisdom from Little House on the Prairie:
"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I'll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all."
