Markus McLain
January 23, 1965 – May 15, 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Markus McLain announces his passing on May 15, 2025, at the age of 60. Markus was born on January 23, 1965, in San Diego, California, where his story began — one filled with strength, adventure, love, and faith.
Markus is survived by his beloved children Marquee McLain, Kylee McLain, and Quade McLain, who were the absolute light of his life. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Steven Schroader, Danny Schroader (Laurie), DeeDee Faulk Brick (Jim), Lori McLain Nye, and Melinda McLain Gibson (Sean), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends whose lives he touched deeply.
He was preceded in death by his loving sister Star McLain Nicholls, his father Stephen Chester McLain Stepfather Gary Faulk, his mother Barbara Stuart Faulk, and his nephew Scotty Schroader, all of whom surely welcomed him home with open arms.
A Life of Adventure and Heart
Markus was a man of depth and conviction — outspoken, loving, courageous, and fiercely independent. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend. His childhood began in San Diego, but life would soon carry him to Utah, where he moved with his sister Star and their father. It was there that his father would met Barbara, who became a guiding presence and loving mother.
Growing up in Utah, Markus developed a strong connection with nature. He loved being outdoors — camping, hiking, exploring, or simply sitting quietly under the open sky. This love for nature stayed with him throughout his life, bringing him peace and grounding wherever he went.
Markus had a natural curiosity for the world. Over the years, he traveled across many states — Montana, Oregon, Colorado, California, and Florida — leaving pieces of his heart in every place he visited. He often shared stories about his travels, his experiences, and the people he met along the way. To Markus, life was an adventure meant to be lived fully, and he did just that — with laughter, courage, and a deep appreciation for the beauty around him.
A Man of Spirit, Wisdom, and Love
Markus had a spiritual heart and a philosopher's mind. He was deeply interested in spirituality, religion, and esoteric knowledge, and he loved to engage in conversations about the mysteries of life and the unseen world. He carried his faith within him — strong and unshakable — yet always respected and welcomed the perspectives of others.
He was also a proud Master Mason, known in his prime for being among the most skilled and respected in his field. Markus took great pride in his craft, his integrity, and his dedication to helping others.
Those who knew Markus knew his heart was golden. He was the kind of man who would stop to help anyone in need, lend a listening ear, or share a story to lift your spirits. His compassion was limitless.
He was endlessly proud of his children, speaking often of how amazing they are and how much joy they brought into his life. They were the greatest love in his life, along with Wendy, the mother of his children — his one true love. Markus loved her wholeheartedly and remained forever grateful for the incredible mother she has been to their children. His love for his family was constant and unconditional.
A Free Spirit Who Lived Life His Way
Markus had a natural charm and a contagious zest for life. He loved to dance, to listen to music, and to watch football and sports, often enjoying a good laugh and the thrill of a friendly bet. He also enjoyed skiing with his siblings when they were younger — those moments on the slopes full of laughter, competition, and shared joy became some of his favorite memories. His energy could fill a room, and his laughter had a way of making others feel at home.
He spent meaningful time in St. Augustine, Florida, where he helped his niece Amber Ainsworth set up a metaphysical shop. During this chapter of his life, Markus became a mentor, friend, and inspiration to many in the spiritual community. He grew close to Amber and her family, sharing many adventures, late-night talks, and moments of joy.
Markus lived spontaneously, following the call of his spirit. He trusted his inner guidance and traveled wherever he felt led to go — leaving his footprints and his heart across the map. Those who crossed his path were forever changed by his warmth, humor, and wisdom.
Forever in Our Hearts
Markus's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his presence continues to echo in the lives of all who knew and loved him. His strength, his faith, his stories, and his laughter will never be forgotten.
He will be remembered as a father, a loving brother and uncle, a wise friend, and a free soul who lived life boldly and authentically. Markus's light will continue to shine through the memories he created, the love he gave, and the lessons he left behind.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will forever dance in the wind, whisper through the trees, and watch over those he cherished most.
He left his footprints on this earth — and an imprint on every heart he touched
