Merle Edwin Lilley, a beloved centenarian of 101 years, of Gainesville, Florida, peacefully passed away on August 11, 2026, in Gainesville.
Merle was born on January 10, 1925, in Canton, Ohio, to Merle Cleaver Lilley and Elise M. Karcher Lilley. Throughout his remarkable 101 years, he lived a life defined by dedication, kindness, perseverance, and the positive influence he had on those fortunate enough to know him.
He proudly and graciously served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Following his military service, Merle enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with Hallmark Cards, where he dedicated 25 years before retiring.
One of the greatest joys of Merle's life was the love he shared with his bride. Married for more than 70 years, he continued to lovingly call her "my bride," a beautiful testament to the enduring love and devotion they shared throughout their many years together.
Merle leaves behind many family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his outstanding, positive, and influential memory. His wisdom, warmth, and wonderful spirit touched countless lives, and the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind will continue through all who knew and loved him. Though he is deeply missed, his remarkable 101 years will always be remembered with gratitude and affection.
He will never be forgotten.
