Sandra "Sandy" Lynette Ryals Hayden, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and devoted Gator, passed away peacefully with her brother Mike and daughter Stephanie by her side.
Born on December 1, 1951, Sandra was the daughter of the late N.C. and JoAn Ryals. She was a lifelong Gainesville resident and proud graduate of Gainesville High School, Class of 1969. She went on to earn her master's degree from the University of Florida, an institution that would become such an important part of both her professional and personal life.
Sandra enjoyed a long and successful career at the University of Florida, where she served in both the President's Office and later in the Admissions Office. She took great pride in her work and in being part of the University community. A dedicated and loyal Gator fan, she followed the University with enthusiasm and remained a steadfast supporter throughout her life.
Sandra was someone who worked hard and found great satisfaction in serving others. She was the quintessential behind-the-scenes "worker bee"-the person who could be counted on to quietly, efficiently, and effectively get things done. She never needed to be in the spotlight or receive recognition. Instead, she found fulfillment in helping others, solving problems, and making sure things were taken care of. She was also famously punctual and never late for anything. In Sandra's world, if you weren't 15 minutes early, you were late. Her dependability, loyalty, strong work ethic, and willingness to help made her a treasured colleague and friend.
To those who knew Sandra, she was a friend to all. She had a genuine warmth and an ability to make people feel welcomed and cared for. Her straightforward, matter-of-fact nature, quick wit, and willingness to tell it like it was were part of what made her so special. She gave generously of her time, her knowledge, and herself to the people she loved.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, N.C. and JoAn Ryals, and her beloved husband, Jeff Hayden.
She is survived by her children, Stephanie Underwood and Benjamin Hayden; her grandchildren, Brittany Underwood, Savannah Ferrell, Liam Hayden, and Aubrey Hayden; and her great-granddaughter, Zariah Underwood. She is also survived by her siblings, Jack Ryals, Geri Ryals Yontz, and Mike Ryals, as well as many extended family members, friends, and former colleagues whose lives she touched along the way.
Sandra leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, service, friendship, and love. She was never one to seek the spotlight, but her presence made a difference in countless lives. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Celebration of Life services held by the family, will take place at The Elks Lodge, 2424 NW 23rd Blvd, Gainesville, on August 30th, 2026 at Noon. All family and friends are welcomed to attend.
